Quilted Northern is “here to change your toilet-paper game” with an :60 that changes the epic Starship song “We Built This City” to “We Quilt This City”… with a comfy roll.

The brand’s first work from Orchard shows a trio of ladies in quilted jackets bring an ’80s edge and comfy vibe to a grocery store. The lights go down, the neon comes on. Shoppers are transfixed by t.p. lyrics, synth styles and a checkout conveyor belt that serves as a glam runway.

Work it, quilted queens!

We Quilt This City :60 – Quilted Queens | Quilted Northern®

“The toilet paper category is currently run by a lot of non-human characters, who, to our knowledge don’t use toilet paper,” says Christine Taffe, copywriter at Orchard. “The Quilted Queens are real women talking to other real men and women. That alone is surprisingly new for the category. Sometimes the simplest choices help you stand out. In this case, it was deciding early on that we’re adults talking to fellow adults who know what toilet paper is, and just want to know which one is better.”

Directed by Tajana Tokyo, the ad is running on cable TV—including placements during a few Olympic finals—plus YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

“We shot in Romania but in spite of the language barrier, the non-English speaking crew knew all the words to the song by the end of our shoot,” Taffe tells Muse.

A scent or song can transport you back to happy days from the past. Glad refers to this as phenomenon as “scent-stalgia.”

The brand partnered with Tionne Watkins—best known as T-Boz from TLC—for “Scents That Take You Back.” The campaign features trash bags that smell like Gain, Febreze and Pine-Sol. We’re back in the ’90s, baby!

FCB Chicago created the spot below starring the Glad Girl Group, a ’90s girl band with cool clothes, dance moves and trash bags. MullenLowe handled PR for the initiative.

Glad Girl Anthem

T-Boz joined TikTok and led a dance class at Forward Space in NYC. The class involved learning choreographed moves, like those seen in the video. (Its “Bag-ography” was choreographed by dancer Sean Bankhead.)

“TLC created the blueprint for girl group–style and female empowerment during that era, and truly inspired the Glad Girl Group dancers,” says Carrie Rathod, head of marketing at Glad. “This campaign is grounded in ‘scent-stalgia,’ the feeling we get when familiar scents transport us back in time. And scent, much like music, has the power to take us back.”

Consumers can win custom merch and a trip for two to see TLC and Shaggy perform on Aug. 31. Just follow @gladproducts on TikTok or Instagram and comment using the hashtag #GladSweepstakes.

“The commercial Glad had stands out,” T-Boz tells Muse. “It reminded me of ‘No Scrubs.’ When I first saw the commercial and the girls were dancing, it did bring me home to the ’90s and when I got the call it just made sense. Music and scents bring you back to good memories. I used to want to be like my mom. And she smelled like Gain. All of it just feels good. TikTok is where you go to get the hottest dances, learn music and dancing, so for Glad to put that on there with me I think that’s hot.”

We couldn’t pass up the chance to ask T-Boz about her favorite ad jingle and when she immediately began to sing: “My bologna has a first name…” the handful of people in the room kept the jingle going with “It’s O-S-C-A-R.”

Aflac Casts Deion Sanders in DEI College Football Blitz https://musebyclios.com/sports/aflac-casts-deion-sanders-dei-college-football-blitz/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=aflac-casts-deion-sanders-in-dei-college-football-blitz https://musebyclios.com/sports/aflac-casts-deion-sanders-dei-college-football-blitz/#respond Thu, 26 Aug 2021 12:00:00 +0000 https://musebyclios.com/uncategorized/aflac-casts-deion-sanders-in-dei-college-football-blitz/ In his commercial debut for Aflac, Deion Sanders neither walks nor talks like a duck. In his commercial debut for Aflac, Deion Sanders neither walks nor talks like a duck. Thankfully. But he does share screen time with the insurer’s spokes-fowl—and Alabama coach Nick Saban, too—in a college football-themed campaign from creative agency Dagger.

Ads with a multicultural vibe cast former two-way sports star Sanders as “Coach Prime,” a reference to his “Prime Time” nickname and brand-new coaching gig at Jackson State.

As Deion meets duck, we get jokes about earning an “Aflacket” (aka, Saban’s blue blazer, which he’s worn in previous spots) and funky musical riffs from a marching band:

Next, Saban and the duck scrimmage on field amid quips about “wingspan” and “coverage”:

Aflac What it Takes

Wait, 256 career wins and seven national championships as a college head coach, and he winds up staring down a duck as Deion Sanders quacks cracks wise? That’s what makes America great!

Sanders and Saban seem to be having a grand time. It’s certainly a kicky way to focus on closing the gap for customers with unexpected medical bills that health insurance doesn’t cover.

As a bonus, Aflac is using the campaign to call attention to historically black colleges and universities, as well as communities of color. The band in the spot—”Flockwave and the Incomparable Tailfeathers”—features actual HBCU musicians and dancers. They perform a game-day arrangement of “Must Be The Money,” Sanders’ walk-on song from his playing days, an on-brand selection for sure. Also, the band uniforms, Deion’s wardrobe and the Aflacket are customized designs that exemplify HBCU spirit, Aflac says.

The company notes that its commitment to diversity dates back to its first TV spot, “Park Bench,” from 2000. Aflac cites the participation of director J.J. Adler from Ruckus Films and her multicultural crew in its latest work as an evolution of that stance.

“Coach Prime is not only a world-class athlete and coach, but also a father, teacher, and advocate for Black opportunity,” says Dagger creative director Brandon Hampton. “He stands in the gap of education for HBCUs while Aflac stands in the healthcare gap for its policyholders.”

As for Saban, “We got the G.O.A.T.,” Hampton says. “He’s straightforward, no-nonsense. How do you contrast that on camera with another personality? The name that bubbled and rose to the top was Coach Prime.”

He adds: “The coaches had a chance to meet the morning before the shoot. It was so interesting to watch them interact with each other—there was an immediate friendship and the mutual respect was palpable. So much so, in fact, that when Coach Prime was called to set, he said, ‘Next person that interrupts me and Coach [Saban] while we’re talking football is going to get it!’ We all cracked up!”

The ads will air on ESPN/ABC, the ACC Network, the SEC on CBS, and elsewhere, with social media support, and activations throughout the college football season.
